KC Not Foreign
Language is no barrier

After mangala arati, I attend my first Krishna conscious class — in Russian! Because there is no interpreter available, the assembled devotees — Vijay Raman Prabhu, Ananda Moy Prabhu, Madhava Krishna Prabhu, Madhan Mohan Prabhu, Makhanchora Prabhu, Yasoda Nanadana Prabhu, Sundara Jyoti Prabhu, Aditi Devi Dasi, Urmila Devi Dasi — take turns reading a paragraph each from Chapter 16 of Bhagavad Gita and then the pujari, Ananda Moy Brahmachari, reads from the Adi Lila of Sri Chaitanya Bhagavat.

In limited English, Aditi Devi Dasi explains that the chapter is about the brahman who repeatedly tries to make an offering to Krishna, only to have baby Nimai "spoil" his offering by eating it.

The devotees are concerned that I cannot follow, but I explain that the sound vibration of krsna katha, sincerely chanted by a Vaishnava, can purify your consciousness whether you understand it or not. It is not necessary to understand every word, just as it is not necessary to understand how a medicine administered by a sincere doctor works in order for it to cure you.
