Moscow, Russia. Farewell Feast Our last night in Moscow Srila Govinda Maharaj is going to come here to Russia in August. All the devotees here are excited, and busily preparing for the event. In Moscow the devotees are working feverishly to complete the new temple, just a few blocks from Red Square, before Srila Gurudev arrives; in St. Petersburg, at the beautiful temple on the shore of the frozen Baltic Sea, devotees are refurbishing the temple room, cleaning up the yard, and working on flyers and pamphlets to advertise the event. It's our last night in Moscow; we had a little flurry of snow earlier, but not enough to even whiten the ground. The small temple room is crowded. About forty people have come to hear from Goswami Maharaj and to attend the Sunday program. The atmosphere is convivial, and we have a rousing kirtan, followed by a splendid prasadam feast. We are observing ekadasi today, so the feast consists of a cauliflower subji, a tomato chutney, spinach and curd, and an out-of-this-world sweet that tastes like it is made from condensed milk. Goswami Maharaj and I have met so many wonderful devotees here in Russia: in Moscow, in St. Petersburg, and in the Siberian cities of Novosibirsk and Tomsk. I am going to miss them when we return to Delhi and Kolkata tomorrow... |
