Srila Gurudeva's Anniversary

Explanation of "lotus feet"

Today is Sri Nrisimha chaturdasi — the appearance day of Lord Nrisimhadev.

It was on this day, in 1947 — fifty-six years ago — that Srila Govinda Maharaj "happily dedicated every atom of his existence to the service of the lotus feet of Srila Bhakti Rakshak Sridhar Dev Goswami."

Here at the Sree Chaitanya Saraswata Krishnanushilana Sangha, we fasted until after sunset, then had a non-grain feast. Visva Mohan Prabhu (from Australia) received second initiation from Srila Gurudeva, and also saffron cloth, so he's now Visva Mohan Brahmachari Prabhu.

In the evening, Srila Gurudev spoke (in Bengali) to a large crowd in the nat-mandir about the appearance of Lord Nrisimhadev, and Goswami Maharaj gave a brief talk on the practical meaning of "lotus feet."

We bandy these words about all the time, but what should be our practical understanding of "lotus feet"? Lotus feet means service to Sri Guru. Srila Govinda Maharaj is the epitome of that service. He is spreading Krishna consciousness throughout the world, and we should try to help him in that service by stepping forward and accepting some responsible service.
