Cold Morning

No walk today

Ai-yi-yi-yi-yi! It's fuh-reezing this morning! It is -7° Celsius on the thermometer outside Vijay Raman Prabhu's kitchen. It is so cold that even the Gulf of Finland is beginning to freeze along the edges of the shore.

And the cold is aggravated by a wicked southerly wind. Vijay Raman Prabhu says that if the wind was blowing from the North Pole, the whole sea would be starting to freeze by now.

In spite of the weather, I decide to go out for my regular japa walk. I bang on the side of Charlie's kennel (he's deaf) but he only has to stick his snout out of the kennel to make a decision. He gives me a fergedaboutit look and slinks back into the warm interior of his kennel. Okay... be like that!

But when I open the gate of the temple compound and leave the sheltered protection of the perimeter wall, I suddenly realize that Charlie is a lot smarter than he looks. I quickly head back inside, with my tail between my legs, so to speak. I think I will enjoy the view of the windswept bay through the triple-insulated window of my room today.

I hope we are having soup for lunch!
