Saint Petersburg, Russia

Vyasa Puja

Celebration in Saint Petersburg

Today is the Vyasa Puja (divine appearance day) of our beloved Srila Gurudeva. In the morning, after the mangala arati, I speak about the general principle of guru: how guru is the "functioning principle of divinity."

Sripad Avadhut Maharaj, who has been at the Moscow temple for the last week, arrives at the Saint Petersburg railway station at 9:00 a.m., on the overnight train from Moscow.

In the evening, we have a big program in the temple, which is attended by about seventy devotees and guests. Avadhut Maharaj glorifies Srila Govinda Maharaj and gives a brief biographical sketch of His Divine Grace.

After the evening arati and a special guru-puja for Srila Gurudeva, we serve a large prasadam feast in the temple room: rice, a dahl soup, three different subjis, pakoras, puris, halavah, and kampot (a hot Russian fruit drink, similar to a hot toddy).
