Swimming Lesson

Boys will be boys

In the late afternoon, Srila Gurudeva takes a walk around Sri Govinda Kunda. Halfway around the pond, he leans on his walking stick and asks: "Why nobody is swimming?"

The notice on the message board proclaims:

Swimming!

Yes, Srila Gurudeva is happy the devotees swim in Sri Govinda Kunda, but with due reverence!

Before entering the kunda, pay respects and sprinkle some water on your head.

There are only three don'ts:

• Don't climb on the boats
• Don't go up onto the temple of Giriraj
• Don't swim during the times when visitors come for darshan

The best time to swim is between 2 p.m. and 4 p.m.

It is much cooler now that the sun is going down. Some kids had been splashing around earlier. Someone complains that some kids still climb up onto the temple landing to dive into the kunda.

Srila Gurudeva, who has told us many a story of how naughty he was as a young boy, smiles.

"If some naughty boys do that occasionally," he says, "that is okay."
