Devaki

Causes a sensation

The Kirkman Kids have been here two days, so I take them for a treat at Amul's, the store around the corner. Actually, we don't know the name of the guy or the store, but since he has prominent sign displayed above his store advertising Amul's Ice Cream, that's what we call him and his store.

Devaki — since she now calls me Akinchan Maharaj instead of Lalit, I have promised to call her Devaki instead of Tink! — causes a sensation with her red hair, pigtails, and freckles!

Everybody stares! They have never seen anything like her! Some of the braver children walk up to her and tentatively poke her on the arm or back as if to see if she is real!

It's our turn to laugh though, when the selfsame school children get into their school "bus" — a tiny cage-like thingie that's just a little bigger than a breadbox, and is pulled by a rickshaw wallah type guy on a bicycle... Ah, I guess you had to be there!
