Thanks largely to the untiring efforts of Nitya Hari Prabhu, the Sri Chaitanya Saraswat Math is now represented in downtown Santa Cruz, at the Golden Road center at 111 Union Street.
The Golden Road center, just a couple of blocks from the popular hangouts on Pacific Avenue — the Santa Cruz Bookstore, Cinema 9 theater, Noah's Bagels, Starbucks, etc. — is open every day, and every Wednesday, Thursday and Friday evening at six o' clock, a special public program of kirtan (congregational chanting), katha (spiritual discourses) and prasadam (sanctified vegetarian food) is offered.
Golden Road, and its charitable arm, the Global Service Foundation, is a nonprofit organization which provides community assistance in the Santa Cruz district, assisting low income families and the needy, providing educational assistance, counseling and free food distribution.
In a letter from his secretary, Srila Guru Maharaj wrote: "I want to see that our Math is running happily under the guidance of Sripad Janardan Maharaj. I am always happy with the devotees there. The sincere seekers are joining in our program, it is very good, and there is some special quality with Nitya Hari and his group, then everyone will accept their mood."
The Golden Road center is always looking for volunteers to help with their community programs, so if you are in the Santa Cruz area, please stop by the new center in Union Street to check them out, or see if you can assist in some small way.
