Moscow, Russia — Thursday, July 21st

Preparing for the festivals

After returning from Saint Petersburg to Moscow, where it gets dark "early" at 11:00 p.m., I find that everybody is busy, preparing for the big EthnoLife festival next week.

The four-day festival — which begins next Thursday and lasts until Sunday 31st — will be held at the Sorochany sports complex and is expected to attract between 30,000–40,000 people over the weekend, so there's lots of work to be done.

And coming up next month, from August 18th–28th, we will host the huge Vaishnava Festival in Saint Petersburg. We have just received news that Srila Gurudeva will be unable to attend the festival, so everybody is quite understandably disappointed.

Earlier this week Sripad Siddhanti Maharaj flew to Kiev; he will preach in the Ukraine for a few days while he waits for his new Russian visa, and should return to Moscow on Sunday.

It has been raining quite a bit here, on and off; rumblings of thunder and light showers. One big surprise is all the mosquitoes! I don't recall ever seeing any mosquitoes on my previous visits: it must be a summer thing.
