I had planned to go to Nabadwip Dham in May of 1983 to get harinama initiation from Srila Sridhar Maharaj, but because of South Africa's then extant apartheid policies, I was unable to obtain an Indian visa. Srila Guru Maharaj reminds me in this letter that we first need the grace of Sri Nityananda Prabhu — the Lord of the Dham — before we can gain entrance into that holy place.

Dear Bhakta Lou,

Please accept my humble obeisances. All glories to Srila Sridhar Maharaj. Your letter to Srila Guru Maharaj dated May 16th was duly received by His Divine Grace and he has noted its contents carefully.

His Divine Grace Srila Sridhar Maharaj was very happy to hear from you, as we were expecting to see you, but unfortunately, did not see you. Srila Guru Maharaj appreciated your most kind letter, in relation to him, how you came to Krishna consciousness. He said, "We are anxiously awaiting, and will be pleased to have you spend some time with us in this most auspicious Nabadwip Dham."

Srila Guru Maharaj sends you his blessings and prays that by the mercy of Sri Nityananda Prabhu you will be able to cross all obstacles and arrive here safely.

I hope this meets you well, and anxiously awaiting your arrival.

(Signed) The Secretary,
Sri Chaitanya Saraswat Math, Nabadwip.
