A red-letter day
I requested ritvik initiation from Srila Sridhar Maharaj because I was unable to obtain an Indian visa to travel to Nabadwip Dham some months earlier in 1983 to personally receive harinama initiation from His Divine Grace. Some weeks later, I received the following happy letter from the Math Secretary:

South Africa.
Dear Bhakta Lou,
Please accept my humble respects. All glories to Srila Sridhar Maharaj.
As regards your initiation, I have already sent your japa beads and other things, chanted and blessed by our respected Srila Guru Maharaj. I also sent a telegram a few days ago, stating your newly initiated name: Lalita Charan das. His Holiness Bhagavat Maharaj will act as ritvik on behalf of Srila Guru Maharaj.
We were happy to hear from you after a long time, and Srila Guru Maharaj sends his best wishes for your rapid advancement in devotional service.
I hope this letter reaches you in the best of health, and we hope to hear from you again.
(Signed) The Secretary,
Sri Chaitanya Saraswat Math, Nabadwip.
