The toast of China
Yudhamanyu Prabhu Seva Vikram returned to California from China last Saturday. Srila Gurudeva was so pleased to see him and hear all the latest news from the other side of the "Bamboo Curtain."
And what wonderful news he had to give! Yudhamanyu Prabhu's pioneering missionary activities in China keep yielding bigger and better results. So many of his students are eager to hear Srila Gurudeva's conception of Krishna consciousness: over eighty students attended Srila Gurudeva's Vyasa Puja last month!
As usual, Yudhamanyu Prabhu returned from the university in China bearing gifts from many of his English students for Srila Gurudeva: auspicious wall plaques with good luck symbols, decorations, candies, stuffed panda bears, a china teaset, and even, believe it or not, an exquisitely wrapped bottle of Chinese wine!
Yudhamanyu Prabhu says he agonized for days whether or not to bring the wine: it is against the four regulative principles, you know! What would Srila Gurudeva say?
Krishna consciousness is in its infancy in China, and, after all, it is the thought that counts. If a naive but well-intentioned student wanted to send a gift from China to his "teacher" in America, he reasoned, then he had an obligation to deliver it.
And guess what? The bottle of wine is Srila Gurudeva's favorite gift! It makes a great ornament, and is a sensational conversation piece: Srila Gurudeva shows off "my Chinese wine from my Chinese student" to all his bemused visitors!
